Work in progress

Here are some stills of the progress of my film.

These are the vehicles I modeled. I had to rig the wheels using set driven key and I had to constrain each character to their vehicle.

Fire hydrant to be placed on the streets.

This is my Girl character. She was modeled using a proxy cube and rigged using bones and inverse kinematics.

These are some of the examples of the blend shapes used for the Girl character.

These are some of the unfinished models for the characters.

This is basically the set up I used for the rigging. However, I did use clusters and locators to make the animation easier.

This is one of the test snapshots I made to check that the color of the objects matched with the set style.

This is a top view of the complete set I built for my film. Here, you can see the color transition I used for the houses.

My first scene!

This is the first scene I've done: the starting scene. It shows the title and a first glimpse at the main character (after months of being completely lost on what title to choose I came up with "Give way", a title that I think shows the main idea of what is my film about). Now I'm ready to continue animating. And, although I haven't modeled my last character, the taxi driver, I am considering the idea of leaving him behind. I guess this depends on my progress during the next couple of weeks.

Tests

These are some of the tests I made to decide the colors and the kind of outline I wanted for the set and background.

Back to Bristol!

The vacations are over and I had to come back to Bristol. I had to make a new production schedule because the old one wasn't realistic at all! I'm a bit worried about my project because I feel I won't have enough time to finish. These pictures show the stage in which I am now. I am redoing stuff that I though was finished, but in a way, this is a good thing because my models are better than they were before and I have the notions of rigging and skinning much clearer now. I've got three more characters to set up so I have a lot of work to do before I can start animating.

Sound and Effects

Although I have been very busy during my stay in Peru, I managed to work in my film's sound. I have gathered many sound effects and I received the invaluable help of an ex tutor which gave me access to his incredible sound library and gave me some advice on how to build the final soundtrack. Also, I was lucky enough to get help from a rather famous radio show host and actor, who was kind enough to record some voices and the whistling sound for my film. Finally, I managed to book an audio cabin to record some foleys I'm going to need, such as wheels, boxes and bottles sounds.

Back to Peru

It has been three months since I left Bristol to come to Peru. I have taken advantage of the vacations to have a work experience in Alpamayo Entertainment which is a peruvian animation production company which has done a few movies already and it is producing it's third movie which is called "Valentino, el clan del can". I have had a very nice summer (well, winter), and I have learnt so much which is the most important thing. My arrival to this company took place a month before the arrival of a new director, who was hired to replace the older one, who did not have the proper skills. I witnessed the growth of the studio, I saw how everybody, including me, started to learn a lot from this new director, David, and from each other. I saw myself involved in processes which I had only heard of. I had to act and record myself in order to animate my movements and stop improvising when animating. I had to pay attention to the smallest detail and to give "polishing" more time than I though was enough. I started watching movies with different eyes and actually started to analyze my way of talking and interacting with other people (this also helps for animation...). Finally, we all learnt because we had experienced making mistakes and we where motivated to give the best of ourselves. This experience gave me the confidence to make the software work for me and not the opposite way. Now I know I can tweak things and make them look the way I want to. What is around me are only tools for me to use. There are no limits anymore for creating. I'm ready!!!!

My inspiration

These are some videos and stills I took back in Perú to get a glimpse of the real scenario and analize it to take it into my film.
